About Hormona™
Hormona is the world’s first hormonal health tracking app, to support women from their first period to their last. We’ve been on a mission to revolutionize and shape the future of hormonal healthcare for women since 2021.
Hormona was founded in 2020, by Karolina Lofqvist and Jasmine Tagesson, after Karolina’s personal experience of frustration and despair in seeking answers to her hormone-related health problems.
Losing her wellbeing and struggling with debilitating symptoms, she sought help from multiple doctors, even traveling overseas. She was told to take antidepressants and stop working as a high-performance professional as if these were the only possible solutions.
Receiving a diagnosis of an underactive thyroid and hormonal imbalances allowed Karolina to address and improve her health. It opened her eyes to the impact that our ever-changing bodies and hormones can have on our physical and mental wellbeing.
That’s why Hormona was born – to empower women to take control of their hormonal health and better understand their bodies.
Our mission is to be the first global hormonal health app, helping women all over the world better understand their bodies, hormones, and health issues. That means always striving to improve our amazing app, adding new, exclusive features, and, of course, officially launching the Hormona testing kits.
And along the way, we’re also going to start closing the gender data gap, that exists in medicine to help make sure that women’s health is given equal weight to men’s and improve health outcomes for women all over the planet.
Our UK headquarters is based in London, UK, and our EU headquarters is located in Stockholm, Sweden. However, our team works remotely from all over the world, including the UK, Sweden, Finland, Kosovo, Ireland, Belarus, Spain, and San Diego in the USA. Our app is live globally and available for download in both the iOS and GooglePlay Appstores.
You can contact us anytime at [email protected] if you need any assistance, and we try our very best to reply within 48 hours.
Exciting things are happening at Hormona every week! Keep up to date with all the latest developments and events by following us on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn and checking in at Hormona.io.

Hormona health
The Menstrual cycle is the process through which a woman’s body prepares for possible conception. It involves the growth and release of an egg from the ovaries, and the thickening of the uterine lining to support a fertilized egg. If conception does not occur, the lining is shed through menstruation. The typical cycle length is around 21-38 days but can vary from person to person.
During the Menstrual cycle, events take place in the uterus and ovaries in parallel. But generally speaking, there are two distinct phases, the Follicular and Luteal, as well as two events, Ovulation, which takes place between the two phases, and Menstruation, which occurs during the first week of the Follicular phase.
Ovulation occurs when a mature egg is released from the ovary, ready to be fertilized by sperm. It generally happens around the mid-point of the Menstrual cycle and lasts around 24 hours.
Even a regular Menstrual cycle isn’t always precise and can vary in length. Minor fluctuations of around a week in the length are normal.
The most fertile days in your cycle are usually two days before, and the day of, ovulation. Since sperm can survive in the vagina for up to 5 days, your fertility window extends to approximately 6 days.
The Ovarian cycle spans both phases of the Menstrual cycle, and prepares the body for possible conception. During the Follicular phase, an egg matures inside a follicle, located in the ovary. During the Luteal phase, following Ovulation, that follicle becomes the corpus luteum, which produces hormones to prepare the uterus to house a fertilized egg.
The Uterine cycle is the process of thickening the uterus lining to support a fertilized egg and then shedding it if conception doesn’t occur. This happens in three phases. The first is the Menstrual phase, where the old lining is shed. Then there’s the proliferative phase when a new lining is made. That’s followed by the secretory phase, in which increased blood flow and nutrients help prepare the lining for a fertilized egg.
Your period is the beginning of a new cycle, as the old uterine lining is shed. At the same time, rising Estrogen levels encourage ovarian follicles to grow and compete to become the dominant egg released during Ovulation. This growth is why the stage is known as the Follicular phase.
Premenstrual syndrome, or PMS, is what we call the mix of physical and emotional symptoms that most menstruating women—anywhere from 40% to 90%—say they experience at least one of. To help ease those PMS struggles, our Hormona+ subscription offers a PMS program crafted by our team of medical and nutrition experts to support you during your luteal phase. The program includes easy-to-follow lifestyle, behavioural, and nutritional habits you can gradually incorporate without feeling overwhelmed.
Urine testing versus blood testing for hormones have been analysed by scientists for over 20 years now. What these studies have established is that there is close alignment between blood and urine testing. As such urine tests have been confirmed to be reliable, convenient, painless alternatives to blood sampling, making them ideal for regular at-home use. Hormona Tests: Difference
From your current period to your last and beyond (for our FSH test), our tests are the world’s first at-home, non-invasive hormone testing solution for women. They work exclusively with the Hormona app, using our unique integrated camera functionality and AI-powered algorithm to predict your hormone concentration in minutes. Together, they’re all the equipment you need to accurately analyze your hormones from the privacy and comfort of your own home. Test over 3, 6, or 12 cycles while tracking and monitoring your symptoms to discover your individual hormone trends.
Our tests are the first quantitative urine tests across the clinical range for women’s hormone health that works without the need for extra equipment. While other tests might concentrate on a providing a yes/no answer, for instance confirming that ovulation has happened, we at Hormona know from personal experience that there is a lot more to hormones than just this. Our tests use advanced lateral flow technology, meaning our at-home tests can fully quantify your hormone levels with comparable sensitivity to blood testing. We’re also the first to build your individual hormone baseline after 3 cycles so we can support you with range of hormone related issues. Our medical experts, alongside our own research, tell us that no two women – or cycles – are the same, so why compromise?
As it’s not a medical device, the Hormona Wellness tests do not require a CE mark or FDA clearance/approval to be sold in the EU, UK or USA. However, the tests were developed in compliance with the new EU General Product Safety Regulations, to ensure you’re getting a safe, reliable, and high-quality product that works as intended. Your data safety is ingredibly important to us, we also adhere to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation for any personal and health data we collect, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Hormones change daily, between cycles, and throughout our lives from our first period, to our last, and beyond our reproductive years. This is part of the normal functioning of the female body. Hormones affect the functioning of our entire body, therefore imbalances of our key hormones can manifest as both mental and physical symptoms, which can be debilitating for so many women. Research indicates 75% of women report symptoms related to the fluctuation of hormones in the menstrual cycle. There are so many causes of hormonal imbalances such as stress, diet, use of certain medications and/or genetic or thyroid related health issues. The only way to know the cause of your imbalance is by testing your cyclical hormones on key dates of your cycle to analyse your hormone level trends, with respect to your symptoms.

Hormona Tests: Prossess
Whenever you track your cycle, the Hormona app recalculates your cycle length based on your most recent period log data. After you’ve activated your testing kit, the app will map out a schedule tailored to your specific cycle length, indicating the best days to test each hormone for YOUR individual cycle.
All of our hormone tests – FSH, Estrogen, and Progesterone – work the same way. The app will let you know which hormone is due for testing, and all you have to do is follow the instructions in the app. Which means ensuring you’ve got the right test strip, collect your first morning urine sample, wait for the analysis, then scan your test to receive your result. Test results will be stored on your app, and once you’ve tested for 3 cycles, your baseline hormone trend analysis is unlocked.
Follicle Stimulating Hormone, or FSH, released by your pituitary gland, plays an important role in your menstrual cycle.
It encourages the follicles in your ovaries to grow and potentially become eggs, and as those follicles produce most of your Estrogen, FSH is kind of in charge of that, too. But for all of this to work, your body requires exactly the right amount of FSH – too little and you may not produce Estrogen; too much can mean there’s a problem with your ovaries.
Testing your FSH first thing in the morning is a good indicator of the previous day’s levels and, in conjunction with the other tests and your symptom tracking can help build a detailed picture of your hormones.
During the Follicular phase, Estrogen is produced by the follicles in your ovaries, in response to FSH. In this phase, estrogen sends feedback to the pituitary gland to indicate enough FSH has been released to allow the follicles produce estrogen.
Estrogen continues to raise with the growing follicles until a dominant egg is selected and released at ovulation.
In the luteal phase (following ovulation) there is a second rise in estrogen levels to support implantation (in case the egg has been fertilised).
Testing the Estrogen (or indeed Estrone-3-Glucuronide, Estrogens urinary metabolite, as our urine tests do) in your urine first thing in the morning gives a good indication of the previous day’s blood levels and can help with period and ovulation tracking.
After ovulation, Progesterone is produced by the cyst that once held the growing egg, known as the corpus luteum. As a result, the increased production of Progesterone confirms that ovulation has occurred. As with all our hormone kits, testing for Progesterone (or indeed Pregnandiol Glucuronide, Progesterones urinary metabolite, as our urine tests do) in your first-morning urine gives a good indication of the previous day’s levels.
Initially, our test kits will be available for those signed up to our waiting list.
Whenever you track your cycle, the Hormona app recalculates your cycle length based on your most recent period log data. Hormona App: general questions
Simply open the app and go to profile settings via the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the home screen. Then, click “Language” select “English” or “Swedish” and you’re done!
We create our daily insights based on a regular ovulatory and uterine cycle, in combination with existing scientific knowledge about the Menstrual cycle.
That knowledge is broken down by our expert medical team and linked to how you may be feeling that day.
We include them for all users as the hormonal fluctuations of a menstrual cycle is essential knowledge.
If you have an irregular cycle, or one that’s outside the typical length of 21-38 days, we show different daily insights not tied to a cycle day and focused on improving hormonal balance and health.
Currently, the Hormona app is set up for users with a natural cycle, ie, one not influenced by the extra hormones that come with Hormonal Birth Control. That said, there’s still tons of stuff you’ll find useful, including tracking your symptoms and any bleeding you experience while using HBC.
However, as hormonal contraception essentially pauses your cycle, you won’t experience the hormonal fluctuations described in the daily insights.
Yes! We know coming off the pill can be scary so we’ve done our best to try and support you throughout that process.
First off we recommend trying our phases specific recipes designed by our Nutritionist, they contains all essential micro and macronutrients for a balanced nutritional diet.
Following our nutritional advice alongside tracking your menstrual cycle and symptoms can help you assess your hormone health, as you transition back to your natural cycle.
We also highly recommend beginning our 12-week ‘Post Pill‘ program in the app, available to Hormona + subscribers. This program contains general information to support the transition back to your natural cycle from the use of hormonal contraceptives. Each week you will be encouraged to adopt one or two habits such as supplements, self-care, nutritional advice such as avoiding certain food types.
Every week begins with a description, and each habit includes a detailed explanation of what it is, why its beneficial, and how to implement it.
If you encounter a bug, please email us at [email protected]. Be as detailed as possible in your message so we can assist you promptly.
Simply open the app and go to profile settings via the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the home screen. Then, click “Language” select “English” or “Swedish” and you’re done!
Hormona App: tracking
Checking out your previously logged cycles is super easy to do. Open the app, and tap the calendar icon at the top right hand corner of the homepage. Here you can scroll back to view previously logged cycles. If you tap on any previous date it will allow you to ‘log period‘ or ‘log symptoms‘ retrospectively.
Once you’ve set up your account, you can get tracking straight away!
Simply open the app, and tap “Tracking” the middle icon at the bottom of your homepage. Then tap “Log today’s symptoms” and start logging. You can also personalise this screen by adding the symptoms you see most often, by tapping “Customise my daily tracking” and choosing the symptoms that you are likely to log most.
To log your period days, tap “Log period” located in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Make sure you track your symptoms every day – it’ll help improve the accuracy of your predictions.
Using an exclusive algorithm, your cycle predictions are rooted in the averages in your last 6 tracked cycles.
Although symptom predictions are a Hormona+ feature, they’re also based on your previously logged symptoms, which help us to predict what, if any symptoms, you’ll see in the next 7 days.
Easily find your cycle analysis by tapping “Analytics” found at the bottom of the homepage, second from left. Then, head to the top-right of the screen, and tap “Cycle“.
Here we’ll show you stats from your last 6 tracked cycles, including average cycle and period length, as well as any variation and your shortest and longest cycles.
You’ll also see your most tracked symptoms, alongside a graph that illustrates length variations.
In a word, yes! Your predictions are based purely on the information you put into the app. We don’t make assumptions about anyone’s cycle, as no two women are the same.
So, tracking every day helps us to make more accurate, meaningful predictions.
Absolutely! Once you’re in the app, tap “Tracking” which is the middle icon at the bottom of your screen, then hit “Customise my daily tracking“.
From here, you can toggle the categories, including physical, vaginal, mental, and sex, to view each symptom, as well as add or hide them from your customised page.
Once you’ve selected your symptoms, tap “<” on the top left-hand side of the screen and your customised tracking page will appear!
You can always add or remove symptoms at any time, by tapping “Customise my daily tracking” at the bottom of the tracking screen.
To see your logged symptoms, simply open the app, and tap “Analytics” it’s at the bottom of your homepage, second from left.
Then, head to the top middle of the screen and tap “History“, and toggle “<” and “>” to change cycles. You can then select up to 3 tracking items to analyse under “Most tracked this cycle” and “Others tracked in this cycle“, to be added to the chart allowing you to see when they occurred in previous cycles.
There’s also a breakdown of how many days each symptom was tracked at the bottom of the screen.
As the app will know when your period should have arrived, we don’t have a specific way to log that it was late. You can, though, use the notes in your tracking section to mark the day you expected it to start. When your period does start, you can log it as normal, and the app will autimatically adjust to your new cycle length.
If, however, your period hasn’t arrived within 3 months, then it’s officially considered missed, and it’s time to have a chat with your doctor, as they’re best placed to rule out any underlying issues that may be contributing.
Although our symptoms list is pretty comprehensive, every user is different, and that’s why we added the notes section to our tracking feature.
It’s essentially a blank page for you to add anything you need to, in as much detail as you’d like. But if you feel that we’ve missed something obvious in our symptoms list, please do let us know at [email protected].
The Hormona app is set up for users with natural cycles, including periods. And when you’re pregnant, your cycle and periods are paused for the duration of the pregnancy, which means you won’t experience the same hormonal fluctuations as users having periods.
You can, though, still use the app to log any symptoms you see, or use the notes section to keep a record of anything useful, including OBGYN appointments. There’s also our amazing Community, and if you’re a Hormona+ user, our hormone-healthy recipes.
When your period returns post-pregnancy, you can pick back up where you left off and start tracking again.
Now, while our period predictions are generally excellent, sometimes, Mother Nature just has other plans!
So, if your period arrives early, you can always log it by tapping ‘Tracking‘ at the bottom of your home screen. From there, head to the top right-hand corner of the screen and hit ‘Log Period‘. That will open up your calendar, where you can log your period dates.
