Key takeaways

This post is a review of the Ossa Organic Gut Reset, a 14-day program to help rebalance your gut health.

What’s going on in my gut?

Our gut does so much more than just digesting what we eat. Think about all the times you’ve had a ‘gut feeling’ about something, that intuitive nudge that silently guides and encourages us in our decision-making.

Or what about those butterflies we feel when we’re excited, happy, or nervous? It’s no wonder that the gut is often referred to as the second brain and with 90% of serotonin (the body’s feel-good hormone) created in the gut it’s an integral part of our mental wellbeing, regulating our moods and keeping us stress-free and happy.

The gut is also where we absorb the majority of the vitamins and nutrients we need to function. With more bacteria in our gut than cells in our body ensuring we have a good, working, the digestive system is essential to our overall good health.

What Affects Our Gut Health?

Our gut’s ability to function correctly is affected by a variety of factors. Many stresses of modern living can affect our ability to properly absorb and digest food which can lead to ill health. Things like toxins, inflammation, antibiotics, and poor eating habits all weaken our gut health and create perforations in the digestive tract lining which causes leaky gut syndrome; where the digestive tract struggles to break down and process essential nutrients while simultaneously allowing toxins to leak into the body.

Gut imbalances can manifest themselves in a variety of ways; from obvious conditions like IBS, boating, and cramping to the not-so-obvious like skin conditions, autoimmune imbalances, and chronic fatigue.

How To Have A Healthy Gut

Having a strong healthy gut biome (the bacteria that live in our gut) is essential to gut health and can be achieved through good diet and eating bacteria-boosting foods.

One of the best things you can do for your gut health is to do a gut cleanse or reset; this is a program that eliminates gut-aggravating foods and nourishes and heals the gut with bacteria-friendly foods. By implementing good eating habits after the reset you’ll notice huge changes to your health, appearance, and mental wellbeing.

Ossa Organic

With lots of different advice surrounding the best way to gut health, it can be hard to know where to start. Ossa Organic was founded by Catherine Farrant who discovered the importance of good gut health, particularly the benefits of bone broth, during her second pregnancy back in 2012. This led her to create Ossa Organic, a 14-day gut cleanse that I was lucky enough to be able to try.

How Does The 14-Day Ossa Gut Reset Work?

It couldn’t be easier to start your gut reset. When you order the 14-Day Gut Reset you are sent everything you need to start on the path to good gut health. Included in the pack are:

  • Meal plans and shopping list
  • Recipes
  • Bone broth-based soups
  • A selection of chicken and beef bone broths
  • Vegan Broth
  • Organic A.C.V tonic with turmeric, ginger, and honey
  • Ghee

Before you start the Ossa Organic Gut Reset it’s important to read through the information pack provided; make sure you understand how the reset works and what you need to do. Create meal plans and take the time to stock your fridge and kitchen cupboards with delicious gut-friendly foods;  most items on the list can be bought easily and inexpensively.

Step 1: Bone Broth!

Integral to the Ossa Organic Gut Reset is bone broth. Bone broth has been used for centuries as a healing elixir and can reduce inflammation in the gut, help regulate bowel movements and support your immune system.

The first day of the gut reset is a fast day in which you consume nothing but bone broth and water for anywhere from four to 24 hours. The Ossa Organic bone broths are all organic and made from free-range and grass-fed animals.

The first day was the one that I struggled with the most. Prior to trying the Gut Reset, I’d never undertaken any type of liquid fast before. I first tried the chicken bone broth and I was surprised by how delicious it was.; the flavor was rich and nourishing without being overpowering. The beef bone broth had a slightly more subdued flavor but was delicious nonetheless.

Fasting requires a good mental attitude and I found a positive outlook was paramount in keeping me motivated on that first day. I managed to complete the 24-hour fast on bone broth and water and woke the next day full of energy, excited to start the rest of the reset.

Step 2: Daily Meals

Each day starts with a high-quality probiotic and is structured around breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner. Meals are rich in gut-friendly foods such as sauerkraut and kimchee and are made with fresh whole foods that are cooked using the Ossa Organic ghee. Bone broth and ‘broups’ (heartier bone broth soups) are consumed throughout the week as well as apple cider vinegar drinks rich in turmeric and ginger.

During the Ossa Organic Gut Reset it is advised to avoid commercial dairy, alcohol, sugar, and gluten all of which the body struggles to process and can cause inflammation.

The Ossa Organic Gut Reset provides shopping lists, meal ideas, and recipes which include delicious meals like bone broth shepherd’s pie, Ossa smoothies, and stir-fries with turmeric and ghee. The recipes are quick and easy to follow and the meal guidelines, set in a weekly planner, making it incredibly easy to keep on track.

I found the quality of the Ossa Organic products exceptionally high; they’re delicious, rich in flavor, and labeled informatively so you know exactly what you’re putting in your body. I loved the apple cider vinegar drinks which can be taken as snacks in the afternoon and the ‘bone broth avo drop’ which includes combining half an avocado into bone broth turning it into a deliciously filling and creamy soup.

The Benefits

After a few days of following the gut reset, I was already beginning to feel the benefits. I thought I would miss dairy or sugar but once I had settled into a routine, and with the information pack guiding and encouraging me, I soon found that I wasn’t missing anything at all. I was looking forward to mealtimes and with each mouthful, I felt as though I was healing my body and giving it the food it needed to function properly.

Once I completed the gut cleanse my skin looked clearer and I definitely wasn’t experiencing as many breakouts as usual. My energy levels had increased and I was waking up feeling lighter, full of energy, and ready to start the day. I felt less stressed and I was able to fall asleep easily each night. Initially, I thought the gut cleanse would be restrictive and I would struggle to feel satisfied but this wasn’t the case at all; my body received all the nutrients it needed, and any cravings I had disappeared after a few days.

The gut cleanse is meticulously planned and is delivered to your door removing the stress of trying to organize a cleanse yourself. The guide not only gave me all the advice and information on the cleanse itself but also included key principles to guide and motivate me throughout the reset.

After The Ossa Gut Reset

Since completing the gut reset I’ve made a conscious effort in my daily life to make changes to my diet ensuring I fill my body with gut-friendly foods.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made is eating more bone broth; armed with a better understanding of its numerous health benefits I’ve started incorporating it into my daily meals and I’ve already noticed a difference. I feel stronger and healthier and feel much more energized. It’s inspired me to cut down on foods I used to automatically reach for when I was tired or stressed and now I think seriously about what my body needs.

It’s important to note that a gut reset isn’t a detox but rather the first small step in a lifestyle change that can put you on the path to good health, both mentally and physically. Good gut health isn’t a fad that you can dip in and out of but something that is going to have long-lasting effects on your health.

I strongly recommend you give The Ossa Organic’s Gut Reset a try if you’re interested in improving your gut health. The 14- day gut reset is £100 including delivery and you can buy it here. For 10% off use code ’Darling10
