Key takeaways
Do you have a picture-perfect vision in your head of what you think your life should look like?
We all do darlings; you are not alone in that one.
However, while we are waiting for this perceived perfection, what do you do in the meantime? By doing all this waiting for things to happen, we lose our personal power. Simply because we are waiting for external factors to help us feel âhappyâ!
But why do we do this, and what can we do to help ourselves? Let’s start this new year on a positive and look at how we can reach our picture-perfect vision now through personal power.
Take back control of your thoughts
It is perfectly normal to hope for better days and strive to improve your situation, but donât waste your life on negative emotions.
Itâs a widely held belief that what we think, we become. So if you focus on the negatives, youâll attract more negativity.
We have total control over our thoughts, or, more specifically what we focus our minds on.
When we have a negative thought, we have a choice over what we do with it. We can either let them fester or focus on something more positive and increase our personal power.
Control your reactions
You know that pain-in-the-proverbial boss, whoâs a nightmare to work for? The one who asks you to do one thing, then makes you feel stupid because theyâve changed their mind and you never finished mind-reading school. Yup, that one.
Theyâre the one with the problem, so why do we feel wretched?
But is it really their problem?
Whoâs the most upset? The person most affected. But is that you or your boss? You can bet your life your boss isnât feeling wretched, or losing sleep. So maybe itâs your job to seek a solution.
Get back in the driving seat
Suffering is simply our resistance to what exists in our lives. So why should we spend precious time trying to change others to meet our needs?
Thatâs not our job. What if we just accepted other people for who they are, flaws and all, without exception?
Now Iâm not saying that we need to put up with it, but by acknowledging that we are the most affected by a situation, we can get into the driving seat. And this means controlling our reactions and adjusting our own thoughts and behaviors to deal with whatever life throws at us.
But how do you do that?
6 steps to boost your personal power
1. Identify
Everything we do in life comes down to choice. And itâs those choices that we make every second or every day that determine our path. With these choices, we control everything including our future and level of self-awareness.
Once we realize and accept this, we can start to become who we want to be. By paying attention to who we are, what makes us happy, and using our unique gifts, we can make the right choices to create a better future.
2. Evaluate
Who are you? No, really, who are you?
Most of us just get caught up in life and never really think about what makes us, us.
So, how do we find out who we really are?
By taking a long, hard look at ourselves ⊠from the outside in!
- What do you believe about yourself?
- How does your environment affect you? Where you live and where you work?
- Do others play a significant role in shaping your life?
Grab a piece of paper and write everything down; the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Look at the not-so-great stuff and work out what you need to do to move them to the good side. Then look at the good stuff and make a plan to keep those positive traits positive and continue growing on the inside and outside.
This may seem harsh, but get rid of the negative nellies in your life. If you have people constantly belittling you and putting you down, make a conscious choice to ditch them from your life. You donât need their negativity dragging you down!
3. Confirm
Start talking positively to yourself using the phrase: âI am âŠâ
- I am enough
- I am strong
- I am determined
- I am brave
After all, you are what you think, so make it positive!
4. Forgive
This is a difficult one. To move forward we have to forgive anyone we believe has wronged us. (Now doesnât that sound like an 18th century novel?)
As mentioned earlier, you can bet your life that other people wonât be bothered that youâre still feeling aggrieved, so as Elsa said: âLet it go!â
But the most important person to forgive is yourself. We all make mistakes, some little, some large. Letâs face it, we wouldnât be human if we didnât.
But to move forward with positivity and power, we need to give ourselves a long, overdue break and move on.
We canât change the past, but we can live in the moment and make choices that will give us a better tomorrow.
5. Be thankful
Forget flattery, itâs gratitude that will get you everywhere.
Be humble for all that you are and all that you have.
Live life with gratitude, love, and peace, and remember to always be present.
6. Acceptance
Do not accept your fate as dictated by others. Only accept the fate you give yourself.
Through grit, resilience, and dogged determination we can achieve anything we set our minds to. Especially when we believe in ourselves!
You have the power within you to shape the life you want when you accept yourself for who you are.
So what are you waiting for?
Until next time darlings.
