Hormona™ Wellness Tests

First-of it’s kind urinary hormone tests to monitor your hormones from home.

Measures

Estrogen

Estrogen is actually a family of hormones that includes, Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2) and Estriol (E3). In non-pregnant women of reproductive age, Estradiol (E2) is the main Estrogen circulating in the body. Estrogen tends to have a steep rise in the first phase (the follicular phase), and a small rise in the second phase (the luteal phase) of the menstrual cycle. Naturally Estrogen levels decline as your ovarian reserve supply reduces towards perimenopause and menopause.

Due to these natural fluctuations, its essential to monitor Estrogen both throughout the cycle, and from cycle to cycle, to understand what these normal fluctuations are for you.

Knowing your Estrogen levels helps you to understand symptoms associated with low Estrogen, or high Estrogen levels. Forming these associations gives you valuable insights to make lifestyle changes to improve your hormone balance and general wellness.

Progesterone

After ovulation, Progesterone is produced by the cyst that once held the growing egg before it was released. This cyst is known as the corpus luteum and so the release of Progesterone in the second phase of the cycle (the luteal phase) is a key marker that ovulation has occurred, and your cycle is both normal and healthy.

Testing your Progesterone levels not only confirms ovulation, but also indicates any irregularities or issues with your cycle.

Knowing your Progesterone levels helps you to understand symptoms associated with low Progesterone, or high Progesterone levels. Forming these associations gives you valuable insights to make lifestyle changes to improve your hormone balance and general wellness.

FSH

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is released by the pituitary gland and plays an important role in the menstrual cycle. At the beginning of the cycle, FSH encourages the follicles in the ovaries to grow and as they do, they release Estrogen. In that way, FSH controls the production of Estrogen, and so is a crucial hormone for the cycle.

Naturally FSH levels rise as you approach perimenopause and menopause, in response to the decline in Estrogen levels.

Testing FSH is important to understand how changes in its levels may be linked to symptoms associated with low FSH, or high FSH levels. Forming these associations gives you valuable insights to make lifestyle changes to improve your hormone balance and general wellness.

About our tests

Why should I test my hormones?

Hormones change daily, between cycles, and throughout our lives from our first period, to our last, and beyond our reproductive years.

This is part of the normal functioning of the female body. Hormones affect the functioning of our entire body, therefore imbalances of our key hormones can manifest as both mental and physical symptoms, which can be debilitating for so many women.

Research indicates 75% of women report symptoms related to the fluctuation of hormones in the menstrual cycle. There are so many causes of hormonal imbalances such as stress, diet, use of certain medications and/or genetic or thyroid related health issues.

The only way to know the cause of your imbalance is by testing your cyclical hormones on key dates of your cycle to analyse your hormone level trends, with respect to your symptoms.

How do the tests work?

All of our hormone tests – FSH, Estrogen, and Progesterone – work the same way.

The app will let you know which hormone is due for testing, and all you have to do is follow the instructions in the app. Which means ensuring you’ve got the right test strip, collect your first morning urine sample, wait for the analysis, then scan your test to receive your result.

Test results will be stored on your app, and once you’ve tested for 3 cycles, your baseline hormone trend analysis is unlocked.

What makes the tests revolutionary?

From your current period to your last and beyond (for our FSH test), our tests are the world’s first at-home, non-invasive hormone testing solution for women. They work exclusively with the Hormona app, using our unique integrated camera functionality and AI-powered algorithm to predict your hormone concentration in minutes. Together, they’re all the equipment you need to accurately analyze your hormones from the privacy and comfort of your own home. Test over 3, 6, or 12 cycles while tracking and monitoring your symptoms to discover your individual hormone trends.

How are these tests different?

Our tests are the first quantitative urine tests across the clinical range for women’s hormone health that works without the need for extra equipment. While other tests might concentrate on a providing a yes/no answer, for instance confirming that ovulation has happened, we at Hormona know from personal experience that there is a lot more to hormones than just this. Our tests use advanced lateral flow technology, meaning our at-home tests can fully quantify your hormone levels with comparable sensitivity to blood testing. We’re also the first to build your individual hormone baseline after 3 cycles so we can support you with a range of hormone related issues. Our medical experts, alongside our own research, tell us that no two women – or cycles – are the same, so why compromise?

Common questions

About the tests

Which hormones do the tests measure?

Our tests measure FSH, Estrogen’s urinary metabolite Estrone-3-Glucuronide (E1G), and Progesterone’s urinary metabolite Pregnandiol-Glucuronide (PdG).

When will the Hormona Wellness Tests be available?

The hormone tests will be officially available in early 2025. However, we’re inviting select beta testers to access them as early as Q4 2024. To be among the first, make sure to join the waiting list—only those on the list will get early access. You can sign up here.

In which markets will you sell the tests?

Since Hormona is a global brand that aims to help women everywhere, regardless of their location, our tests, just like all our other products, will be available worldwide.

Who are the Hormona Wellness Tests for?

The Hormona Wellness Tests are for all women of reproductive age with regular, natural cycles (not on hormonal contraception), and no diagnosed hormone conditions. If you want to learn more about your body and take hormone healthcare into your own hands, use the Wellness Tests alongside our app as your personal hormone database.

Log your symptoms, test your hormone levels, monitor your cycles, and periods, and get individual recommendations for managing your symptoms, reducing stress and improving your overall health.

Can I use them if I'm on contraceptives?

If you’re on hormonal birth control, you’re receiving either a combination of synthetic progesterone and estrogen, or progesterone-only hormones, at a consistent level to prevent ovulation. As a result, you won’t experience the natural hormone fluctuations of a typical cycle.

You can still use the Hormona app to track your withdrawal bleeds during your no-pill or sugar-pill days, as well as any symptoms you experience throughout the cycle. While our tests can measure hormone levels the results are likely to be the same as there are no natural fluctuations and as such the results you receive may not be that useful. Further the explanations and recommendations within the Hormona Wellness Tests are not specifically designed for those on hormonal birth control. Therefore, the insights may be less relevant or helpful for you.

Can I use them if I have PCOS?

The Hormona Wellness Tests may not be suitable for individuals with diagnosed hormone conditions that significantly impact hormone cycles, such as PCOS, thyroid issues like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, and hyperprolactinemia.

While our tests can still measure hormone levels for those with these conditions, the explanations and supportive materials within the Hormona Wellness kit are currently not specifically tailored to address their unique needs. As a result, the recommendations may be less relevant or useful for managing these specific conditions.

We are continuously working on improving our product and information specifically for those use-cases and specific testing kits are in the pipeline so keep an eye out for updates.

Can I use them if I don’t have a period?

If you don’t currently have a period, it’s likely that you aren’t experiencing a cycle, which means we cannot provide a hormone testing schedule tailored to you at this time. However, you can still benefit from using the Hormona app by tracking your symptoms, following our meal plans, and participating in our wellness programs.

These tools can support your overall hormonal health and may help in restoring your cycle. Once your period returns, our algorithm will be able to create a personalised hormone testing schedule, enabling you to accurately monitor and understand your hormones.

Can I use them if I have an irregular cycle?

The Hormona Wellness Tests are designed for women who have a regular cycle so please note that this kit isn’t specifically made for women with irregular cycles. But, if you’re dealing with an irregular cycle, and are curious about your hormone levels you may still gain some insight using this kit. More importantly—we’re working on a solution specifically for irregular cycles and will have it available soon!

Can I use them if I am post-menopause?

The Hormona Wellness Tests are designed for women who are still in their reproductive years and not specifically made for peri-menopause or post-menopause. However, if you’re dealing with menopause our tests can still measure your hormone levels may provide some some insight into your FSH along with your estrogen and progesterone levels although this is not what it was designed for. But the explanations and recommendations within the Hormona Wellness Tests are not specifically designed for those in menopause and as such the insights you recieve may be less relevant or helpful for you.

But don’t worry—we’re working on a solution for menopause and will have it available soon!

Does the sample taken have to be first-morning urine?

Research shows that the hormone levels in your first-morning urine has the highest correlation to the previous day’s blood levels. We’ve validated our tests in the lab with this in mind, so testing your first pee of the day will give you the most accurate results.
